Veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says the defeat of the National Democratic Congress in the general elections was down to a backfired strategy of using propaganda and character assassination against the NPP candidate Akufo-Addo.
He revealed that even the President, John Mahama, had cause to express shock at some of the vicious campaign ads against the NPP's presidential candidate.
Kweku Baako revealed that President John Mahama called him days to the elections to express his disapproval of a terrible TV ad attacking the character of Akufo-Addo in unprintable terms.
“He thought that was a vicious thing. He had seen what his boys had done and he thought it was vicious”, Baako said on Newsfile Saturday.
Baako said he told the president, who had sought his opinion on the ad, that if he believed the ad was bad then it was bad and should be withdrawn.
Kweku Baako said, although the ad was pulled down, it was already on social media where it had gone viral.
The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide said the NDC has for years institutionalized lies against Akufo-Addo and still believed that in 2016 this strategy would once again work for the party.
Kweku Baako also referred to the constant refrain from the NDC that the NPP was a disunited and a disorganized party that could not win elections.
He said the popular vote showed that the NPP which won in six regions could not fit the NDC's narrative that it was a disunited political force.
Mr. Baako also believes the youthful appointees in government ‘let down their leader’. Popularly described as ‘babies with sharp teeth’ , these ministers, deputy ministers and others replied criticism with insults, Baako analysed.
Another factor, Kweku Baako believes affected the NDC was an excessive confidence that the government’s infrastructural projects would swing the votes for the party.
The infrastructure, documented in what the government described as the ‘Green book’ became the answer to every question posed to government officials.
“Everything you ask, they refer to the Green book. Even when you ask about Kwashiekor, they refer to the Green book” Baako said.

Hoooooolllld it, Kweku hold it right there. The prez himself did same at the sstadium and looked on whilst others did same. Mahama concerns as expressed in he telephone conversation was an act of pulling wool over your eyes. Never trust this Mahama guy. He is a trickster and an untruthful person
I hope NPP will learn form them and be humble al the time. Behavior of this government has even affected our moral lives .I went to suggest to the police to arrest anybody who attack any NDC members.
Some NDC sympathisers on these platforms are still insulting.I bet you they still don't know the negative effect of insults in elections. They will continue to stay in opposition for the next 32 yrs if they don't repent. They even don't care to insult respected priests.Pres. Mahama should go and collect back the money and vehicles from the traditional chiefs who deceived him and promised him 80 and 90% win from their people.Did he get even 80% from his hometown Bole Bamboi?
What next Kweku??soon you will tell us mahama asked you what style he shoud use to f*** his wife.did he himslef not make fun of akuffo addo??ma yen ndwenne wai!!!
We all have lessons to learn from this election . Ghanaians were quiet watching Fiifi Kwetey insult one of our illustrous sons, Dr. Bawumia. It took a commendation from Dr. Kwesi Botchway about Dr. Bawumia's intelligence and skill, to stop the insults. Asiedu Nketia is not a young man, but he led the insults and mudslinging sometimes. Our culture abhors disrespect towards the elderly, and this is the punishment. Even former President Rawlings had his share of insults. He warned them but they ignored him. All the above commentaries have said it all.Truly, the man you vilified so much, is now President elect of Ghana, what will you do? I believe people can change, so these boys will change for the better. They were urged on by some bigwigs in their party. They should come out and apologize to Ghanaians for all they did. Some of them are Parliamentarians too.
Malik Baako my hero, I think for once the ***barred word*** deceived you! He solicited for your opinion on an ad not because he was unaware but he was doing what he does best- lie. Couldn't he have consulted any of his presidential staffers on this. He knew the ad was in bad taste and sought to distance himself. Randy Abbey has helped reduce Metro TV patronage and I hope the owners of the station will do the needful to bring him in check.
You are spot on ; how on earth can A president in the name Jon Mahama call a journalist by name Kweku Baako to ascertain his opinion on a situation whether which was clearly WRONG !!!!!!!Is Kweku Baako the mind of Jon Mahama cannot Jon Mahama THINK FOR HIMSELF : THIS IS JUST KWEKU BAAKO ATTEMPTING TO CONVINCE PEOPLE THAT HE IS GURU IN HIS FIELD AND THAT HE HAS CONNECTIONS AND CONTACTS .
Aaaaaaa! So Mahama had to call Kweku Baako to consult him as to whether to stop something which was CLEARLY WRONG. Of a truth Prez. Mahama was highly incompetent and indecisive. It is like a police officer calling his friend to ask whether it will be good to arrest a criminal. If Prez. Mahama knew the advert was bad he should have gone straight away to stop them instead of strategically trying to let Kweku Baako know that he is not behind those personal attacks though he liked them. We thank God for liberating this country from such a deceptive person
First he has made some sensible analysis.
What prophet? this Asante foooooo000l you called him prophet. Every good thinker knew that NDC is going to loose the election. However, as a fante man I was thinking that all the development Mahama did in Central Region my people will vote for him but I do not know that my people are the most fooooooo0000ls in Ghana. Is only my fante foooooooooooo000ls that will vote for Asante foooooo000ls to rule them, and this Asante foooo000ls will turn and called them jokers. Ewe people will not do that. They feel pround for their people but my Central Fante foooooo000ls
