Mr Mohammed Kwaku Doku, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Asunafo North, says the NDC is not a lawless political party but one that cherishes multi-party democracy.
He said as a social democratic party the NDC believed in the fundamental human rights and freedoms of citizens adding that the government would ensure that a peaceful atmosphere was created during and beyond election 2016.
Mr Doku said this at a parliamentary debate at Goaso organised by some private radio stations on the theme: “Making Election 2016 an Issue-Based.”
Mr Doku, who is the Asunafo North Municipal Chief Executive, urged the party followers to endeavour to sell the party’s manifesto as well as its philosophies and ideologies for voters to make informed choices.
He said development had seen significant and tremendous improvement in the municipality and advised the people to vote for the NDC to retain political power.
He said improvement in the road, health, education and the agricultural sectors were unprecedented adding that the NDC had laid a solid foundation and it needed additional four years to facilitate job creation and poverty reduction.
Mr Edmund Boateng Gyebi, who represented the organisers, said election 2016 was very crucial and every Ghanaian had a role to play to ensure it was conducted peacefully.
He underlined the need for the media to promote issue-based campaign in the political discourse and guide voters to make informed choices and vote for competent parliamentary candidates and political parties.
Mr Gyebi, who is the Northern Regional Correspondent of TV Africa, appealed to followers of political parties to guard against sentimental and inflammatory statements that had the potential to trigger political violence.
