Former Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP,) Mike Ocquaye Jr has described the ongoing pilot biometric voter registration exercise as ‘a complete waste of time’.
The Electoral Commission’s (EC’s) is undertaking a pilot exercise to test the upgraded biometric voter register (BVR) devices in selected polling stations across the country.
According to the EC its decision to upgrade the software will among other things help detect the identity cards used for the registration. It further explained that it had to upgrade the software because the old one could not capture some details.
But in a panel discussion on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Mike Ocquaye described the exercise as unnecessary insisting that what should rather be done is to bring a new voter’s register.
“If charlotte Osei does not allow the register to be cleaned, it means she does not want us to have a free and fair election in the country. What they are doing currently is a complete waste of time…” he said.
