Over two thousand delegates of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) will be going to congress today to elect a flagbearer of their choice for the 2016 presidential elections in November.
The elections will take place at the Trade Fair Center in Accra.
The presidential aspirants include the former Chairperson of the party and daughter of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, former General Secretary; Ivor Greenstreet, Mr Bright Akwetey, a lawyer and Mr Joseph Agyepong, a party stalwart.
Some political pundits have tipped Samia Nkrumah to emerge victorious while others are of the view that Ivor Greenstreet will emerge the winner.
Meanwhile, disqualified presidential aspirant hopeful of the party, Onsy Nkrumah has gone to court to halt the process.
Onsy who claims to be the son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was disqualified after he presented a cheque instead of a banker’s draft for his filing fee.
Onsy is praying the court to to reinstate him in the race since according to him, he was ‘manhandled’.
However, the party’s General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah has told Citi News although the party has received the writ, its lawyers have advised they can go ahead with the congress.
