Despite the efforts being made by the Military High Command to ensure cordial relationship between the military and the civilian population, some of the military personnel are behaving as if the country is still under military dictatorship.
They have no regard for the constitutional dispensation the country is enjoying, and will take the law into their own hands at the least provocation.
Last Monday, the obviously hungry for attack soldiers went on a rampage at Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi, and assaulted every young person they sighted, in revenge for an earlier altercation between one of them (soldiers) and some of the youth from the Takoradi suburb at a popular night club the previous day.
An eyewitness, Muhammed Awal, told The Chronicle via phone that the soldiers, numbering ten, arrived at the suburb around 1:00 pm, and started moving from house to house attacking every young man they set eyes on.
Some of the youth who could not escape were almost beaten to pulp, and were rushed to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi to seek medical attention.
Some of the victims, according to The Chronicle information, bled profusely from cuts that were opened on their faces by the wrathful soldiers, who were reportedly wielding some sharp instruments.
The military men, who came from the 2nd Battalion of Infantry, also seized mobile phones belonging to their victims.
An opinion leader in the area, Alhaji Saed Jallo, who confirmed the story, told The Chronicle that the Military Command and the Takoradi District Command of the Ghana Police Service had visited the place to gather first-hand information.
When the military was contacted, the Public Relations officer, Captain Linda Obuor, would neither confirm nor deny the story.
She promised to call this reporter back, but failed to do so.
