Information picked up by the New Statesman newspaper indicates that Editor of the Accra Daily Mail, Alhaji Haruna Atta is set to be appointed as Ghanas ambassador to Namibia.
This comes in the wake of Haruna Atta indicating unequivocally that he was prepared to serve in the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress government, despite being a fierce critic of the same government under the leadership of Jerry John Rawlings.
Haruna Atta, who has since declared himself as a rationalist, and risen above partisan party politics, is a former editor of the Statesman newspaper and became an integral part of former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahamas office.
Alhaji Haruna Atta, on July 23, 1998, was sentenced to a 30-day jail term by an Accra High Court, following a suit filed against them by Nana Konadu, wife of then sitting President, Jerry John Rawlings.
Mrs. Rawlings had dragged the two editors to court crying foul that their papers had defamed her, and sought an interim injunction to restrain them from publishing any further defamatory material about her.
