The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya Constituency, Michael Teye Nyaunu, to re-apply to become a member of the party.
According to the NDC, Mr. Nyaunu lost his party membership after he contested the Lower Manya seat as an independent candidate against the partys regulations.
Mr. Nyaunu lost the elections to the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ebenezer Terlabi in the December 7 polls.
The defeated MP earlier told Citi News he was still a member of the party but the National Organizer of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan, insists that Mr. Nyaunu should re-apply to be accepted as a member.
We always have to follow principles and have to be disciplined. If you want to join a party like NDC, then of course they have to re-apply and we will have to consider whether they are worth being admitted as new members of the party.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Boateng Gyan explained that Mr. Nyaunus name has been struck out of the partys membership list and we have just given directives to the people that he is no more a member of the party.
He added, that party members who also supported the MPs independent candidature will also be sanctioned and kicked out of the party.
