A group calling itself NPP Women Elders Group has called on supporters of the party to exercise restraint during the ongoing election of officers at the local level and ensure that there is peace at all levels of the party.
It also called on the leading members of the party who have been making statements in the media "to hold their fire especially during the build-up to the election of the party's national executive".
The statement signed by seven members of the group noted that reports from across the country indicated that all was not well with the process of the election of officers at all levels.
"This selection process, which is mandated in the party's constitution as a build-up to the selection of national executives, is being tainted with some degree of misunderstanding."
The statement said if there were any problems, the leading members of the party should come to a roundtable for amicable discussion for solutions to be found.
Those who signed the statement were Mrs Gladys Asmah, Ms Amma Busia, Mrs Alberta Cudjoe, Mrs Cecilia Bannerman, Hajia Mariam Khaldi, Ms Susana Mensah and Ms Elizabeth Ohene.
