A military officer with the 5th Infantry Battalion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties at Denkyira Boase in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central region has been lynched by residents on suspicion of being an armed robber.
Captain Maxwell Mahama who is commander of a military detachment in the area according to his subordinates, on Monday dawn was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, they saw the pistol on him.
According to them, he was not dressed in military uniform and because of recent spate of armed robbery in the town after residents were attacked a day earlier, the women called the Assembly man who organized the youth of the town to lynch him.
Several pleas by the security officer to the effect that he was not a criminal yielded no result as the angry residents kept hitting him life threatening objects including cement blocks until he died.
News of his death was later conveyed to his subordinates who visited the scene to ascertain things for themselves.
The body has since been conveyed to a health facility in the area but for fear of being attacked by the soldiers who may avenge his death, the youth have started fleeing the town realizing that the deceased was not a criminal as they thought.
Police in the area have confirmed the incident to mynewsgh.com and disclosed that investigations have commenced to apprehend those behind the act.

PLEASE, DON`T EVER LYNCH YOUR OWN BROTHER FOR MONEY. THAT NOT WITHSTANDING, THE GHANA ARMY HAS BEEN USED TO PROTECT FOREIGN TIVES FOR FAR TOO LONG. THE ONE AND ONLY JOB OUR MILITARY DO IS THE PROTECTION OF FOREIGN MINES. WE PAY OUR MILITARY AND BUY THEM ARMS AND AMMUNITIONS WITH OUR HIGH TAXES TO ENABLE THEM PROTECT OTHER FOREIGN NATIONALS. ANYWAY I AM DEEPLY SAD, THE DEATH OF THE OFFICER IS SOMEWEY! MONEY SHOULD NOT MAKE YOU KILL YOUR OWN BROTHER. IF YOU KILLL THE FOREIGNER FINE.

all these things, we can link them to the things we watch on the television, these foreign movies in twi, so much wickedness demonstrating on our television. framing of people, kidnapping brutal killings. when we were going going up television was the source of education in Ghana here. lets correct thing before the new generation get use of these wickedness. when I say lets go back to our culture, i don't mean juju.
This is sad but it is a wake up call to the Nation. Laws are not working the people have lost hope in the system already. A genuine case may end up ***barred word*** case just because someone has paid something. This case is one in hundreds, do we know innocent souls the nation has lost through this instant justice? Come on we can do better than this as a nation. The Police, the Judges, communities must sit up. People have become impatient cos of some incidence in the past.
We are not kids! The perpetrators cooked up the story. The people from the town knew this guy very well as the commander deployed to stop them from their illegal mining activities. He had been going for the jogging for the past 3 weeks he was posted there. They deliberately killed him to pave way for them to continue their illegal mining activities.
Oh our country Ghana, an innocent military commander lynched to his death, presumed to be an armed robber!, this is where bad governance can get to, the lack of confidence in the police service and all govt institutions in this has resulted in some of these actions by the public. Police officers telling victims of arm robbery to come and pick them up from the police, calling emergency lines and been cut off, reporting criminals to the police and been told to go, come, go come and in the end nothing is done to the criminal, in many instances they pay bribe and are released. it saddens me that it’s a military man! Ghana as a country should be mindful of its obligations to the society. The beginning of lawlessness happens when there is no confidence in the security service, where all believes that they cannot trust the police to protect them. Ghana is getting to that stage and we must critically evaluate our police service, the cost of maintaining the service is huge and if we are not getting any value, we must rethink again. I sincerely believe the Ghana Police service needs a major, major overhauling, maybe leave this national police, and go the British or even better the American model, again take the police out of politics, efficient monitoring schemes, police ombudsman etc. new initiatives are needed for policing in Ghana. The current system is just not working, and actually breeding corrupt officers and in some cases criminals. There is no discipline in the service, you see them wearing dirty clothes in public, drinking in bars when on duty or in duty uniform, police men packed like sardines in a pick-up and so forth and on. I am sure there are some descent police officers around who are willing to serve professionally but the corrupt nature of the system does not even allow them to do so. We need initiates and probably alternative to Policing in Ghana, the present system has failed the country.
Soldiers always know what to do...... Guys just go to the town and do what you know..... Avenge the death of our comrade
You must be living in Jupiter. In this technological age nothing goes unnoticed so stop this your nun sense. At this age its absolutely impossible for any news to be kept hidden.
But when the soldiers killed a civilian at Millennium city, the Military High command defended their own.
