The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has hinted of making the Presbyterian University Ghana a world class Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Centre the first of it kind in Ghana and Africa at large.
Addressing the School of Graduate Studies 2024 badge during the 6th Congregation Ceremony in Kwahu- Abetifi Ramseyer Training Centre, the Moderator of the Church and double as the Chancellor of the University revealed plans are far advanced by the church to establish a world class Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory Centre for the university to enhance teaching and learning.
Admonishing and lauding the effort of the immediate past Moderator of the Church Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante to assist needy but brilliant students a scholarship scheme , he noted by saying "the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is very keen to see the development of the University"
"At the last graduation ceremony my predecessor instituted a scholarship for the university with his personal seed money and after my speech today I wish to add on to that seed"
"I present to the University on this occasion one hundred thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 100,000) which will go directly into scholarship and bursary support for Presbyterian students who decide to study here at PUG"
"another Support I want to announce for the University community is the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to enhance teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology " the Moderator kum Chancellor addressed the graduands.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare-Kwakye however expressed deep concern regarding what he described as empty political promises urging the graduands to exercise their democratic right wisely in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
He advised the graduands in the address saying "the choices we make and the actions we take today largely defines our future , as educated and enlightened citizens you have a crucial role to play in shaping the future of our nation"
" I call upon you to exercise your democratic rights wisely to vote not out of self interest or narrow mindedness but out of genuine desire to see positive changes and progress in our society"
He reiterated "don't be swayed by empty political promises or divisive rhetorics but rather we should come together as one nation united in our shared aspirations and common humanity "
"let us engage in civil discourse and constructive dialogue, respect our differences while striving towards our shared goal,
"above all, let us reject violence and intolerance in all it forms , for true democracy can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect" he added.
This year , a total of 341 students of the Presbyterian University, Ghana PUG graduated across the various master's degree programs out of which 224 were males and 117 representing females.
