She lost because "race" was mobilized by both contestants. Trump appealed mostly to the 'under-trodden' urban and rural white and impoverished middle classes of America. Clinton (with Obama/Mitchell/etc) were also whipping up the blacks, Latinos, and other minorities, to supplement an apparent clinton-white voter base. The turn out on election day was a show of this racial tension. Clinton lost because she lost the 'race' mobilization contest. Whites did not trust her. gender played a minimal role!!!
