Ghana needs a comprehensive policy for a 24-hour economy, Labour expert, Austin Gamey has said.
He, has, therefore called for comprehensive policy on how the 24-hour economy would be implemented, urging both the present government and future governments to detail how they would implement the policy and also commit themselves to it.
Mr Gamey further indicated that the initiative would bring more employment opportunities in the country where people would have the chance to work for different organisations at different times, hence enabling them to improve their finances.
He said Ghana will be able to come out of its economic challenges if government implements the 24-hour economy initiative.
For him, "in the absence of a 24-hour economy, this country will not grow."
In a radio interview monitored by Graphic Online on Accra-based Citi FM on Monday [February 19, 2024], Mr Gamey noted that the 24-hour economy initiative holds a great potential to turn the economic fortunes of the country around positively.
"To me, the 24-hour economy is the solution," he said, adding that the policy would ensure equity and social justice.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also contesting the 2024 presidential election on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said one of his major policies will focus on the implementation of a 24-hour economy when elected as president.
The policy has since gained popularity in the political space in Ghana after Mr Mahama's pronouncement.

Mr Austin Gamey, you are labour expert and consultant, bring your comprehensive ideas on that so called 24hr economy. It is just a slogan. Any factory, services or business that will run 24/7 depend on the demand and supply. 24hr yaaamutu.
Confused 24hr economy..... you NDC guys are struggling to explain this meaningless policy.
Mr. Gamey you are big joke. You are just throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians by trying to add some substance to the limping NDC 24-hour waakye economy which they themselves are finding it difficult to explain. You have nothing to offer.
The NDC and its allies should know that a 24-hour economy is an EFFECT and not a CAUSE. If a Government would implement good policies and improve upon public services, a 24-hour economy would be the outcome. And if leadership is the CAUSE and all other things are the EFFECT, then the NDC is moving away from a leadership that CAUSES things to happen. They're moving to the side of EFFECTS in which case they would be abdicating leadership. As a Government, you have the authority to CAUSE things to happen. You cannot leave policies entirely to the way in which people would respond. You may provide tax incentives, but if the road is poor, the factory would not open 24 hours. If security is not available, they won't open either. So your role as a Government is to do those things that would make the people respond. This is what makes the NDC's 24-hour economy a complete FLUKE! It's a very thick SMOKE just blown into the air! While it looks thick, it's only a SMOKE!
that is all
You guys are not serious at all
