The government’s proposed Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) continues to receive pushback as individual bondholders ask to be exempted.
Pensioner Bondholders Forum has petitioned government to exempt all pensioners holding sovereign Bonds from the DDEP.
Convener of the group, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi speaking in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' lamented over conditions of pensioners.
“We have no regular source of income to support us in terms of our feeding, buying regular medications, paying medical bills and meeting other critical expenses. Most of us have made investments in Government of Ghana securities with the expectation that the coupons will supplement the meagre pensions we receive through the Tier One Pensions Scheme under the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT),” he explained.

I don't get it. These are individual Ghanaians who have invested their monies in government bonds. Why will you use their hard earned monies against their will, why? Can government put it's hands into an individual's pocket and forcefully take their monies? This is exactly what the finance minister is doing. It's like the current administration don't care about a future NPP after their exit. If not some of the things happening in this country is unthinkable. Ghanaians are being treated like slaves and their master. Am just imagining what the NPP flag bearer will tell Ghanaians in 2024, that person is in big, very big trouble. I thought the government would have used the remaining 2 years left for its tenure to come to an end to correct it's wrongs but they are adding more pain to innocent Ghanaians. A struggling finance minister who says chinchinaaa he will stay on when the evidence is clear that the finance ministry is too big for him. All the passengers say the car is reversing but the driver says the car car is moving forward, if you put a car gear/ transmission in reverse and still look forward the car won't move forward simply because you are looking forward. It won't.
