Two out of six men who have specialized in stealing sheep and goats of people within Kade, Abriem and its environs in the Eastern region, have been arrested by the police.
The men were arrested by a team of police personnel led by DSP Samuel Ntosoh at Nsawam near the Nsawam Prisons, upon a tipoff.
They are Yaw Koranteng, 30 and Kwame Osei, 32. ASP S. Addom, who narrated the incident to Daily Guide said on January 20, 2012, around 8:00am, the Nsawam police were tipped off that a Nissan Urvan mini bus registered GS 3266-10 and driven by Yaw Adjei, with passengers on board, was carrying prohibited goods.
A team of police personnel led by a senior police officer was dispatched to the scene and intercepted the vehicle near the Nsawam prisons. When a search was conducted on the bus, five fertilizer sacks were found with five goats and three sheep carcasses in them.
Upon interrogation, the passengers named Yaw Koranteng and Kwame Osei as owners of the sacks. Further investigations revealed that the men, together with four others, had stolen a number of sheep and goats from victims at Abriem around 3:30am of January 20, 2012.
Upon getting to Kade, eight of the animals had died and so the two suspects stayed behind to prepare them so they could later transport them to Accra and sell them to food vendors.
The ring leader, Alhaji Bolaji, had transported the remaining live animals to Accra aboard a Kia truck. The two suspects have since been sent to court and charged with possessing stolen property.
The police are however looking for Suspect Alhaji Bolaji.
