NDC Is Still A Formidable Electoral Machine Alfred Ogbamey

Managing Editor of the defunct Gye Nyame Concord newspaper, Alfred Ogbamey, has warned the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to be overly-exultant in the fall of some NDC big shots in the partys recent parliamentary primaries by presuming that election 2012 is a done deal. He warns that NDC is still a formidable party and the fact that some DCEs and bigwigs in the ruling government lost in last Saturdays primaries does not indicate a vote of no confidence as the NPP is claiming. The NDC government ended its second leg of parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies last week with shocking defeats to some major players in the President Mills led government. Former Tourism and Information Minister, Zita Okaikoi lost her dreams of representing the party in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency to a relative newcomer, Sophia Karen Akuaku and in the Central region, Agriculture Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi, also failed in his bid to obtain enough votes to represent the party in the Agona East constituency. Majority of the DCEs and MCEs who contested in the primaries also lost miserably. This to some members of the opposition NPP, is an indication of a vote of no confidence in the President Mills administration. Some even conclude that it is a shadow of events to come. But contributing to discussions on Peace FMs Kokrokoo Morning Show on Thursday, Alfred Ogbamey pointed out that the NDC is a formidable electoral machine which the NPP must take cognizance of, citing the NDCs Sunyani congress and the campaign waged prior to the congress as a typical example.
