A Spanish construction conglomerate, Inter Nilo, would soon start feasibility studies for the construction of low cost houses throughout the Volta region. Other projects include a regional airport and stadium at Ho, the regional capital. The projects, which would be executed under private/public partnership, would complement efforts by government to create jobs for a number of youth in the region. Speaking to the press last Sunday night at the Kotoka International Airport on his way to Madrid, Spain to finalize the agreement on the projects, Dumega Raymond Okudzeto, a partner of Inter Nilo company, disclosed that the first oil from the wells of the Keta Basin would probably be pumped next year and stressed the need commence the affiliated projects. Dumega Okudzeto, who is also the President of Volta Foundation, a developmental Non Governmental Organization (NGO), added that the construction of the Keta Harbor would also start soon. He said the on-going rehabilitation of the Keta/Afiadenyigba/Metrsikasa road, which would link Ho to the north of the region as announced by President John Evans Atta Mills at the recent Hogbetsotso festival at Anloga, has compelled stakeholders to quickly start the construction of the harbour. Another project, he hinted, is the survey and data collecting on the huge salt industry, which has started in the Keta Basin. �One unique thing about all the projects in the Volta region is the healthy collaboration between the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), the Central Government and the private sector for the development of the region,� Dumega Okudzeto indicated. Another delegation, made up of stakeholders in the tourism sector from the Anlo Traditional Council, led by Togbi Samlafo III and Kofi Asante, would tour Spain and other European countries. The delegation would sensitize both the indigenes of the region and foreigners to invest in the sector. They would convince tourists to make Volta region their preferred tourist destination.
