Reject The NDC Politics Of Sugar, Rice And Hajj

The Vice-President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, at the annual celebration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed (Maulid Nabiyyi) (SAW) did said " for Ghana to avoid the current disturbances engulfing the Middle East, the leadership needed to be accountable to the people." "There is the need for us to be accountable in our duties so that we are not taken by surprise, as is currently happening in the Middle East. We must keep an eye on what is happening because the situation is not far from us." [Daily Graphic, Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, p16] Muslim Youth have observed with deep regret the hypocritical manner some political leaders handle Muslim matters in the country. It is important to put on record that, the modus operandi and subtle maneuvering used by NDC Government of His Excellency Prof. Atta Mills to canvass for votes from the Zongo communities in Ghana forms a significant worry to Muslim Youth as far as winning an election is concern. The NDC as a party, call on the Zongo community during the month of Ramadan to be deceived with bags of rice, sugar and Milk. This for us is an affront to our intelligence. Does it mean that, our main concern has not gone beyond food? This behavior has gone to confirm the assertion that, NDC as a Party, perceived Muslim Youth as a hole that it is, we are only useful and significant during the farming season and dumped immediately after harvest. Many Muslims in Ghana have deceitfully been misled by NDC that, it is the only party that cares for Muslims in the Country. Where is the care? Is it the rice and sugar? We cannot even be appointed as running mate to the flag bearer of the party despite our strong membership in the NDC Party. This dishonesty on the part of the party must stop. The NDC in pursuit of self-interest and commercial profit, appointed NDC Muslim Gurus to exploit the ignorance of the general public and the vulnerability of Ghanaian Muslims at the expense of the general good and benefit of the Muslim Ummah in the management of HAJJ matters. This is a classical display of job for the boys. What we need from NDC as a party, is discipline, transparency, self-sacrifice, sincerity, honesty, non-political inducement of Muslim Youth, commitment, visionary leadership and professionalism in terms of administrative skills and absolute competence in handling matters related to Muslims in the Country. We will not be deceived by Sugar, Milk, T-shirt, Rice, free hajj tickets and other irrelevant concerns. Finally, we again demand that the Report of 2009/2010 Hajj, purported to have been submitted to His Excellency the Vice President, be made public and the Accounts of 2009/2010 HAJJ operations, with Audited Accounts, published in the print media for public scrutiny. We intend to resist any attempt by the NDC to claim ownership of Hajj in this years (2011/2012) hajj operation.
