The Deputy Minister of Information, Baba Jamal says President Mills did not commit any unlawful act when he ordered the release of NPP communications member John Kumah, who was arrested on Wednesday for alleged offensive conduct. Rather he says the President has left the matter to the judgment of the Almighty God to deal with him. The Deputy Minister acknowledged that though the President respects the legal structures and the powers of the police to deal with suspects, he does not want to be entangled in the verbal exchanges among political parties. The Deputy Minister's explanation on �Dea Mehunu� on Adom FM follows the arrest and release of John Kumah over what has been described as insults against President Mills when Kumah allegedly referred to him as �gay� in a media discussion. Baba Jamal called for decorum in discussions concerning the Presidency. He condemned Kumah�s alleged description of the president�s darkened palms as an indication of abuse of drugs. John Kumah however rejected the submissions of the Deputy Minister, insisting rather that though he did not insult the president, any insult from the NDC will be responded with another insult. �If he wants to be popular for insulting the president, then he has made the biggest mistake of his life� Baba retorted. Mr. Kumah said the NPP has been forced to use unsavory language against some prominent people in the NDC because of the constant verbal attack on their presidential candidate Nana Addo, such as linking him to narcotic drugs. He described his arrest as the return of the �culture of silence�, arrogance and abuse of power by the NDC. He cited what he described as similar comments by Deputy Minister Kobby Acheapong and Peter Otokunor against NPP members and questioned why those people were never arrested. 'Baba Jamal is a wicked liar, ahh! How can he turn this around? Am I his small boy?' protested Kumah. He challenged the Deputy Minister to produce any recording of him (Kumah) in which he referred to the president as gay. Asked if this latest incident is an indication of the earlier warning they issued at a press conference warning the NDC to desist from insults or risk facing their wrath, the NPP communication team member described Nana Addo as equally important as President Mills and would resist any attempt to destroy his reputation. He warned that if the NDC does not stop the insults, they will respond appropriately until they arrest all their members.
