"Jerry Rawlings Will Campaign For President Mills"

A KEY member of GAME in Kumasi and NDC Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer, Kwaku Boahen says former President Jerry John Rawlings will campaign for the ruling partys flag bearer, President Mills in the upcoming general elections. He said those who think the NDC founder will turn his back on the President during the 2012 general elections would be shamed because Mr. Rawlings will campaign for the NDC. The NDC, he said, values former President Rawlings and really holds him in high esteem adding that it is the partys detractors who are peddling the rumour that Mr. Rawlings would not campaign for President Mills in 2012. Boahens comments come after several leading members of Get Attah Mills Endorsed downplayed the importance of the Rawlingses in the NDCs quest to retain political power in 2013 prior to the partys Sunyani congress. It would be recalled that NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman, Yaw Obimpeh stated categorically whilst addressing party delegates that Mr. Rawlings was no longer relevant in Ghana politics. At the time he said not only had Rawlings importance in modern day politics waned, but his wife, Nana Konadu was also no longer a force to reckon with. In an apparent u-turn however, Boahen who is a staunch supporter of Mr. Obimpeh insisted former President Rawlings is our leader and we all respect and give him the honour for that. He added, Mr. Rawlings formed the NDC and he loves the party so much therefore he would campaign for the NDC. The Rawlingses have been living well since the NDC came into political power, compared to the days of the NPP who made life a living hell for the former first family, Boahen said on radio. Consequently, Mr. Rawlings would not sit by idly and allow the NPP to take over political power and subject him and his family to more humiliation and attacks, he added. The NDCs detractors, he pointed out, want to create the impression that the founder is fed up with his own party just to create confusion in our ranks and unseat us. According to him, the NDC and Mr. Rawlings are well aware of the plans of their enemies so they would remain united and confront the 2012 polls as one family in order to shame them.
