Boakye Konadu Jailed 50 Years

A KUMASI CIRCUIT Court has convicted Boakye Konadu aka Andy Cole, who robbed five persons of their laptop computers, mobile phones and money at gunpoint. The convict, who is unemployed and lives in Kumasi, was sentenced to 50 years� imprisonment in hard labour on five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, contrary to sections 149 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), 1960. The court presided over by Emmanuel Amoh Yartey convicted Boakye Konadu after he had pleaded guilty to all the charges.Prosecuting, a state attorney, Richmond Osei-Hwere said on July 7, 2011 at about 8.00pm, the convict and three accomplices, namely Michael Boakye Ediful aka Macafe or Kodie, Oje and Gucci who are now at large, robbed the complainants and witnesses at an internet caf� at Bomso in Kumasi. He told the court that the accused and his accomplices entered the internet caf� and pretended to be customers wanting to surf the internet. But soon after entering the caf�, the convict and his accomplices who were armed with locally-manufactured pistols, ordered the complainant and the witnesses to lie on the ground. The robbers took an HP laptop valued at GH�1800 and an LG mobile phone worth GH�80 from the complainant. The gang, according to the prosecution, also succeeded in robbing another man, Kelvin Numekpor of his computer server worth GH�2,000 and five system units valued at GH�900. They also robbed one Castro Afrifa Acheampong, Julius Odoi and Sabina Ama Sossuo-Gloh of their HP laptop valued at GH�1,800 and a cash sum of GH�80. Other items the convicts and his accomplices took away included an LG phone worth GH�30, Toshiba laptop valued at GH�530, a handbag valued at GH�20, a cash sum of GH�170 and Vodafone mobile phone. Prosecution stated that some days later, the accused was spotted by one of the witnesses and with the help of other persons around, they caused his arrest after which he was sent to the Oforikrom police station. When the suspect was searched, two locally-manufactured pistols and three live cartridges were found on him.
