Nana Konadu Goes Independent?

A publication by The Publisher newspaper indicates that Nana Konadu may contest the 2012 Presidential elections as an independent candidate. The paper quoted Mr. Rawlings in its Monday 18th July, 2011 edition as saying, I appeal to our queen mothers, women, and the President of the 31st December Womens Movement that something very serious is at stake We missed a fine opportunity to recognize the value of womanhood in our society If we should let this fine opportunity that is waiting for us in 2012 pass, Im afraid, the battle movement that we would be taking would not only affect us in Ghana, but too many other countries on the continent. A comment, the paper suggests, buttress the point that Nana Konadu may contest the 2012 election as an independent candidate. Speaking in an interview on X-fm, Editor of The Publisher newspaper, Mr. Samuel Kofi Baah said considering Mr. Rawlings utterances at the conference coupled with the fact that the former 1st Lady is the only woman in Ghana now who wants to be president, the Rawlings may be nursing another Presidential ambition. According to the paper, Mr. Rawlings spoke of how his wife was cheated in the Sunyani Congress and wondered how the government could bring back the energy that saw the NDC winning power in 2008. When asked if it was possible for Mr. Rawlings to be a member of the NDC and support his wife as an independent candidate at the same time, Mr. Baah said, The former President was speaking in parables. He wasnt very clear but from his speech, he was calling for massive support for his wife. He was there to honor the wife and he said his wife is very bold and that the wife would always speak the truth and also called on other people to support her. Contrary to Kofi Adams recent comments that Nana Konadu is not running for the presidency, Mr. Baah said he believes the former first couple may be nursing another presidential ambition (based on the former presidents speech) whether it is 2012 or the years after, adding that there was something up their sleeves that nobody wants to reveal to the public. Mr. Baah said the information is not a rumor or a speculation because it is very clear what the former president meant by 2012 presenting another fine opportunity for women in the country to respect womanhood, adding We know that the only person who wants to contest for the presidential slot is the former 1st Lady. I think she knew she was fighting a losing battle because everything was in favour of the President, but well, I think she tried her best and she was bold, Mr. Baah opined.
