Mills Is A Hypocrite

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says government has shown hypocrisy in handling the Atiwa by-election violence. At least nine people are said to have been injured when a vehicle belonging to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Womens Organiser, Anita de Soozo run through a mob during the election. The polls were organised to elect a new Member of Parliament after the death of Kwasi Annoh Ankamah, NPP MP for the area. The NPP says the ruling party has failed to assist those injured in that incident although it prides itself of running a caring government. The comment follows a statement by Attorney-General Martin Amidu in Parliament yesterday that his outfit is no longer interested in pursuing the case. Mr. Amidu said there was not enough evidence for prosecution. But Director of Communications of the NPP Nana Akomea said the matter should not end there. If there was a calamity somewhere wouldnt it be governments duty to extend some assistance? And you have a whole National Womens Organiser running her car through people and maiming a lot of them. Theyve been hospitalized for months and as we speak there is not one single word of sympathy; there is not one single word of consolation all because of politics, he said. Anita de Sooza has said she drove through the crowd in self-defence. Those injured are said to have been part of a group of people who had mounted an illegal road block to ward off strangers from entering the town. They are said to have tried to verify the identities of the occupants of the vehicle on which the NDC Womens Organiser was travelling. A panicking De Sooza rather drove through the crowd and headed away. But Nana Akomea believes although reasons have been given for her action, government needed to show concern for the welfare of the victim. But assuming that that is the accepted or official version that her life was in danger and she felt compelled to drive through the people who got injured in the process, as a government that is for all Ghanaians, shouldnt there have been some assistance or care towards those victims? he asked. Its a disgrace to the whole talk about a caring government, the asomdweehene and a Father for All'".
