Nana Rocks Afram Plains

THE FLAGBEARER of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, continued with his Listening Campaign tour of the Eastern region, which started on Monday, with a trip to the Afram Plains South constituency yesterday where he was warmly received by an enthusiastic crowd. The two Afram Plains constituencies have traditionally been a stronghold of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) but at the first port of call at Ekye Amanfrom, which is a fishing community, Nana Akufo-Addo was given a tumultuous welcome by the people. He interacted with members of the community, with the chiefs bitterly complaining about the gradual collapse of the fishing industry because of increasing cost of outboard motors and other fishing gear and inputs. At the same place, the people also complained of government neglect after the Volta Lake flooded parts of the town. They said NADMO gave them only mats. The flagbearer and his entourage which included his campaign manager, Boakye Agyarko; Operations Director Lord Commey and some regional executive members of the party also did extensive listening at Maame Krobo in the constituency where they met various leaders and opinion leaders of ethnic groups in the area, as well as market women and drivers. The people at Maame Krobo also lamented about rising cost of living and sharp increases in prices of agricultural inputs such as cutlasses and fertilizer. The flagbearer assured the people of Maame Krobo and Ekye Amanfrom that he had taken note of their problems and concerns and would therefore help address them when he becomes the president in 2012. The team went to Forifori and continued to Tease in the same constituency. It is expected to continue its campaign at the Afram Plains North constituency today, starting from Donkorkrom.
