Victor Smith: Mills Must Listen To Aggrieved NDC Members

The former aide to ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and now Ghana's Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Victor Smith, has urged President Mills to consider the concerns of the Rawlingses and other party members and address them expeditiously. Speaking to Citi News in an interview, Ambassador Smith said the only reason there is a contest instead of an acclamation for President Mills is because some party members are aggrieved. Ambassador Smith said despite these challenges, President Mills is still a good leader and has a better chance of defeating the opposition New Patriotic Party in the 2012 general elections hence the need for the delegates to support his candidature. He said it is clear that President Mills will win by a "landslide" at the upcoming Sunyani congress after which the President will move on to win a second term in power in 2012. Explaining why President Mills ought to be given a second chance, Ambassador Smith said: It is a clear case that we are going to have a landslide in favour of President Mills for us to pursue the Better Ghana Agenda, and the fact that President Mills contested the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo in the last election and beat him; this time round he (President Mills) is going to beat him convincingly. What we need to tell the delegates is for them to rally behind the President. "People have raised grievances over certain issues in the way certain things have gone in the last two years and these are surmountable things that we need to sit and find amicable solutions to.
