Nana Konadu Meets NDC MPs

In a bid to woo Members of Parliament of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote for her as flag bearer of the party, former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has arrived in parliament to meet with the NDC MPs in the House. This is to enable her sell her campaign message to the MP's. The Former First Lady arrived in a Black Lancruiser V8, wearing a white and blue African wear. She was accompanied by one of her daughters Amina and one assistant. At the time Citi Fm's parliamentary correspondent Richard Sky entered the chamber, more than 20 of the NDC MP's including the majority leader were already waiting with Nana Konadu's avowed supporter Michael Teye Nyaunu being the Master of Ceremony (MC). Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is the only challenger to President Mills for the flag bearer contest in the 3-day National Delegate's Congress. There are indications that a majority of the MPs are backing President Mills' second term bid, but sources close to Mrs Rawlings have told Citifmonline.com they are confident of changing some minds at the end of the meeting. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has on several occasions accused the President of providing weak leadership and presiding over an increasingly corrupt government for a country once led by her husband, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings (Rtd). The NDC will go to congress from Thursday July 8 to Sunday July 10, 2011 at the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani. Analysts have described the congress as a make or break for the Rawlingses. Some have even predicted that they could break away and form a new party if Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is defeated at the Congress. Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR), the main campaign group for the former first lady and opponents of the Presidents second-term agenda have over the last few weeks intensified their campaign to stop the former law lecturer from being re-elected as the candidate of the ruling party.
