Regional Voting Will Undermine NDC UnityIts A Recipe For Disaster Kofi Adams

Spokesperson for ex-president Rawlings, Mr. Kofi Adams has welcomed the decision by Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) not to support the regional bloc voting system being proposed by the party at the upcoming delegates congress. Mr. Adams claims if the partys hierarchy had agreed to that particular voting system it would surely have led to the disintegration of the ruling NDC. He said the campaign team of the former first lady raised concerns and officially wrote to the countrys election governing body about the mode of voting for the impending congress to be held at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region. Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Xfm, Kofi Adams who also doubles as the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC said the EC has given indications that it is in the position to organize and finish the elections by 5 p.m. on the voting day especially with the use of multiple voting screens at the congress. Im surprised that one of the candidates team will go round and campaign about voting regionally only for the national hierarchy of the party to adopt the same strategy especially when it is not stated in the party's voting guidelines and mentioned that the campaign team of Mrs. Rawlings were planning to meet the party top hierarchy to address the various concerns they have sent to them concerning the upcoming congress, he said. Mr. Adams was of the view that the delegates themselves have seen the blatant acts of intimidation they (Konadus camp) complained about and believes the other group has been exposed. He was worried that the regional voting system will undermine the unity of the NDC party, something he said Mrs. Rawlings campaign team will not allow to happen. He expressed optimism about the former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings winning due to her hard work and making history by the weekend just like the newly elected first Taiwanese premier Yingluck Shinawatra when she eventually becomes the first female president of Ghana in the 2012 general elections and offer that bold, precise leadership needed by the country. Kofi Adams explained that, the need for party unity was the main reason for Mrs. Rawlings bid, adding she is ready to still help build the NDC if she loses provided the other party provides the room and environment for that.
