Ghana Opposes Russian Invasion on Ukraine

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the invasion of Russia on your Ukraine stationg the enormous food insecurity the action has brought on poor countries on the globe.

President Akufo-Addo, in a Peace Summit held in Switzerland by Ukraine, stated that, the consequences of the invasion go far beyond the confines of Europe.

He added that, the continent of Africa has suffered severely as a result of the unrest in the two countries, thus, Russia and Ukraine.

President Akufo-Addo made a clarion call on China and Russia to join in the Peace Summit in order to find a lasting resolution to the seemingly unending war, which has claimed so many lives and destroyed several properties and government installations.

He said, “If we’re ever going to arrive at a definitive settlement, then China and Russia must join in the Peace talks”.

In stating Ghana’s position in the ongoing war, President Akufo-Addo stated that, Ghana opposes “great power hegemony and the bullying of small states by big powers. It is in this context that we view and continue to view Russia’s invasion and acts of aggression.”

Eighty countries, including Ukraine, and four European institutions signed the final joint communique of the Switzerland peace summit on June 16, according to a Kyiv Independent reporter on the ground.

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky called on China to join in developing the peace talks which is paramount to ending the war in his country.

“China could help us,” Zelensky told reporters, adding that though it had close ties with the Kremlin, “Ukraine never said that China is our enemy. I always say that Ukraine has only one enemy: Putin.”

Throughout the full-scale invasion, sales of oil and other hydrocarbons to China and India have become the primary source of funds for Russia’s state budget and war effort.
