2024 Election: Prof Smart Sarpong's Research Lacks Credibility

The largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has questioned the credibility of a recent survey undertaken by a senior research fellow at the Kumasi Technical University, Professor Smart Sarpong.

Professor Smart Sarpong, indicated that Ghanaian voters prefer Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the next President of Ghana to the candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.

Thw survey conducted across the various regions in Ghana revealed that, there is a deeper preference for the Vice President.

From all indications as far as the findings of the research is concerned, Bawumia leads as the preferred Presidential Candidate with 38.9% in the 2024 general elections.

The survey also revealed that the opposition party, the NDC is the most popular party.

This findings has elicited varied conversations amongst the public with some persons gravely disagreeing with the findings. Top amongst those who disagree are the members of the opposition party who are of the view that, the researcher was already tinted with bias thereby, discrediting the research work.

Deputy Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Thursday, June 6, stated that, the research lacks credibility adding that the survey does not accurately reflect the sentiments of the Ghanaian electorate.

According to him, Prof Sarpong was a sympathiser of the NPP, and an admirer of Dr. Bawumia, which raises the questions of credibility.

Malik Basintale said, “The credibility of the researcher is as important as the research work. And so, if I wanted to look at the research work of Sarpong, I would have out-rightly attributed many stories to him. I will just say that look he is a known NPP person, we know him from Kumasi Technical University."

"We know his penchant love for the NPP. We know his agape love for Dr Bawumia in fact in many of his releases as far back as November, he said in his own interest, he feels that Dr Bawumia should be president of this country.” the NDC Communicator added.

The survey further indicated that all other Presidential aspirants put together are making up to 3.6% gains. The survey also indicated that about 21.4 % of prospective voters are yet to decide which Presidential candidate to vote for as of the end of April 2024.
