MMDAs Entreated to Champion Urban Development

The Minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah has entreated the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to champion the urban development agenda within their jurisdiction.

According to him, urbanization presents a lot of opportunities that have the potential to change the face of Ghana’s development.

In an interview with Journalists during the 2024 Ghana Urban Forum under the theme “Nurturing Roots, Growing Futures: Combining Policies and Partnerships for Urban Resilience and Transformation”, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah stressed that, his outfit is charged with the mandate to promote and ensure good governance and balanced development at the local level which enjoins them to champion through laid down strategies, actions and partnerships to improve the living conditions of the about 56.7% urban dwellers.

He also stressed the Ghana Urban Forum serves as a collaborative platform for various stakeholders within the urban space including Ministries, Departments and Agencies among others to share knowledge and experiences as well as deliberate on important urban development issues while proffering solutions that align with national and international frameworks.

In her remarks as the Chairperson of the for occasion, the Commissioner for the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) Madam Kathleen Addy said that, urbanization trends in the country over the last 3 decades has not served us optimally and called for solutions that can help us urbanize the country citing that urbanization has now become an effective tool in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation.
