Your Attacks On The Educational System Unwarranted - Dennis Replies Mahama

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for the Dr. Bawumia Campaign Team, delivered a resolute message to former President John Mahama, urging him to refrain from undermining the credibility of the WASSCE results, in a press conference on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Aboagye expressed grave concern over Mahama's remarks, cautioning against the potential damage to the reputation of Ghana’s educational system.

He emphasized the critical role played by teachers and parents in shaping students' success and stressed the need to defend their efforts against baseless accusations.

“While this statement by the former president has reputational damage to our education globally, the blatant disrespect meted by the former president, who should know better, to the students, teachers, and parents who sacrificed and contributed to the outstanding performance of the students must be condemned in no uncertain terms” he stated.

Aboagye strongly denounced Mahama's allegations of cheating in the WASSCE exams, labelling them as unsubstantiated and disrespectful. He pointed to the widespread condemnation of Mahama's comments by organizations such as the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and concerned parents, highlighting the united front against such damaging rhetoric.

Furthermore, Aboagye criticized Mahama's history of disparaging the Free SHS policy, attributing it to political motives rather than genuine concerns for education.

He noted Mahama and the NDC's consistent attempts to discredit the policy, despite its proven transformative impact on Ghana's education landscape.

Aboagye underscored the importance of fostering a supportive environment for teachers, students, and educational policies, warning against the detrimental effects of Mahama's attacks on education.

He urged Mahama to adopt a constructive approach to education discourse, focusing on collaborative efforts to improve the educational system for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

He reiterated the government's commitment to advancing educational initiatives and outlined Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the sector.

He underscored that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia envisions a transformative education system for Ghana, revolving around TVET, STEM education, and IT literacy.

Under his leadership, plans include establishing a National Open University, making coding and robotics accessible in SHS, and providing laptops to tertiary students.

Special needs education will be prioritized, with additional training for teachers and therapists.

Infrastructure expansion for medical and legal studies is planned, alongside a commitment to maintaining and enhancing Free SHS.

Dr. Bawumia's vision aims to prepare Ghanaian students for the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution while ensuring inclusive and accessible education.

Against this background, “the persistent attacks and the constant ridiculing of our students, teachers, and youth are a cause for worry. His threat to review and possibly cancel the Free SHS Policy has become a scare to millions of parents across the country. It is causing trauma and mental health crisis for the poor who rely on this social safety net” he added.

Aboagye called on Mahama to support these efforts rather than undermine them.
