Give Dr. Bawumia Benefit Of The Doubt - Prof. Osafo

"People change their minds", Professor Joseph Osafo asks Ghanaians and critics of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to give him the latitude to express his vision.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday, February 7, told the citizenry about his vision for the nation if elected into power on December 7.

Among the things he intends to implement are to abolish E-Levy, make National Service optional, give tax amnesty and introduce a flat rate tax, cancel betting tax, provide seamless digital avenue at passport office.

The Vice President has also made it emphatic in his statements that his vision is different from the President's but he has come under a barrage of criticisms with some people lashing out at him.

Dr. Bawumia is partly blamed for what the critics describe as bad governance under the reign of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

To them, Dr. Bawumia cannot claim to have his own vision, hence positioning himself to attract the votes of Ghanaians.

But the Head of Psychology at the University of Ghana, Prof. Joseph Osafo has appealed to the nation to give the Vice President the benefit of the doubt.

The senior psychologist explained that though he (Bawumia) is a member of the governing party, he however is entitled to his own thoughts and ideas, therefore has the right to stamp his vision in the minds of the populace.

He added that it is nothing strange for one to have a change of mind concerning an issue or a policy; this he stated to counter the criticism about Dr. Bawumia's pledge to abrogate E-Levy.

"He has a vision. The vision he has outlined, we can query him on the vision. We can take the vision and critique it but I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt just as we will give to former President Mahama that people change their minds and not only that, circumstances will force you to change your mind", Prof. Osafo asserted in his submissions on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show.
