Deputy head of sports at Despite Media, Ernest Brew Smith says no arrest was made after a football fanatic assaulted Black Stars coach Chris Hughton following their 2-1 shock defeat to Cape Verde in Sunday’s AFCON 2023 Group B game. 

He described the scene as “unfortunate” but said calm was restored after an Ivorian police was called to the spot.
 
“The supporter did not physically assault the coach, as widely speculated. He rushed to the coach but was prevented. There wasn’t any arrest.” Ernest Brew Smith told NEAT FM in an interview.
