First Lady Confident Of Continuous Progress Towards Sustainable, Eco-friendly Digital Future In Ghana

Ghana will keep highlighting how important it is to take major steps in promoting sustainability across a range of economic sectors, according to First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

As part of its attempts to diversify the nation's energy mix, Ghana established a floating hydro solar hybrid plant, demonstrating its excellence in this field among West African nations, she intimated.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo said that the plant will power a cashew factory in the Bono Region and create jobs for roughly 800 people, especially women, while speaking virtually at the Huawei 2023 Sustainability Forum.

"The cashew plant will not only provide employment opportunities but also equip beneficiaries with the necessary skills set to make a living. The world is going green and projects such as the Hydro Solar Hybrid plant shows that Ghana is on the right path towards the realization of a sustainable and eco-friendly digital future,” she noted.

“I therefore believe that this cashew factory will build on the successes we have achieved as partners and contribute to the realization of a new rural economy where no one is left behind,” she noted.

The First Lady of Ghana also expressed her appreciation to Huawei for its unwavering contributions, initiatives, and projects that aim to boost the country's economy, especially in the digital sector.

“Together, we have worked tirelessly in building the skills capacity of females in rural areas. Over 6,000 students and traders have been trained in a period of two years and my Office is grateful for this collaboration with Huawei,” she stressed.

The forum was held under the theme; 'Thrive Together with Tech: Realizing Sustainable Development'.

At the same event, broadcast journalist Kafui Dey joined to share some knowledge about the initiatives being undertaken in Ghana to achieve sustainability and an eco-friendly future.

Huawei promised to use technologies and services like 5G and AI to provide connection to over 120 million people in distant places across more than 80 countries by 2025 when it joined the ITU's Partner2Connect Digital Coalition in 2022.

Investing in broadband networks and other ICT infrastructure has so far been used to boost economies by assisting enterprises in launching new services and motivating entrepreneurs to launch new ventures.

These actions seek to safeguard the environment by lessening the negative effects of economic development on the environment, in addition to the advancement of digital technology.
