Atik Mohammed says the Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh is the best candidate to partner Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia into the 2024 elections.

According to him, it will be politically unwise for Dr. Bawumia to overlook a candidate from the Ashanti Region as his Running Mate.

"It will be politically unwise for him to look beyond the Ashanti Region...For now, when you look at the dynamics in the NPP and how things are going, it is only strategic that his choice comes from the Ashanti Region," he cautioned.

Therefore, to him, should the Vice President, who is the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, appoint Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; they together will give the opposition National Democratic Congress and their presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, a 'showdown' next year.

"I think NAPO stands tall for strategic reasons...If NAPO is to partner Dr. Bawumia, they will give the NDC a good run for their money," he stated.

Nonetheless, names like Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Education Minister, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff, Joseph Osei-Owusu, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and a host of others have been reportedly listed for the Vice President's consideration in his choice of a Running Mate.

But to Atik, all these names won't help Dr. Bawumia as much as Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly called 'NAPO', would do for him in his quest to retain the New Patriotic Party in power.

"If Bawumia chooses NAPO to run with him, it's going to be a solid ticket; a very formidable ticket...It will be a solid team if he has NAPO on it," he insisted while making his submissions on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
