NPP Flagbearer Race: The Road Is Clear For Our Election On November 4 - Fred Opare-Ansah Assures

Frederick Opare-Ansah, a former Member of Parliament for Suhum, has indicated that the road is clear for the New Patriotic Party's November 4 presidential election as four candidates compete to become the flagbearer of the party.

The four candidates in the persons of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Francis Addai-Nimoh, are all fired up to give each other a showdown.

It could be recalled that during the party's Special Delegates Conference in August this year to select five out of ten presidential aspirants, some aspirants raised concerns over the outcome of the election which even led to the resignation of former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, from the party.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show Monday morning, Fred Opare-Ansah has assured the aspirants and delegates of a transparent and smooth election on November 4.

According to him, the Elections Committee of the party together with the candidates have outlined measures to curb any challenges that may arise on the election day, adding the Police and Electoral Commission are also fully prepared to see to a fair election devoid of violence and irregularities.

Mr. Opare-Ansah is convinced there will be no complaints at the end of the election.

"I will say that, by and large, all the sour issues, all the sour points that have come up, we have managed to iron out nicely...So far, we know not which party is not happy with the processes, the agreements that we have...I will say these elections has [sic] brought some of the most and good innovations in internal party elections in our party but it is good because it is helping the party develop itself and move towards new frontiers."

"The arrangements have all been properly laid out. We have confidence in it. We've had our concerns. We've raised them, some of them, the others have yielded to our concerns and we've had our way; some of them, we never had our way and we also let go and then supported the broader view held by the Committee and our representatives from the other aspirants. And that is all in the spirit of ensuring that we go through this election, and when we are done, nobody should say that somebody bent the rules to favor someone because there is no bending of rules by the Elections Committee anywhere. We have all gone through every single issue that has come up and we have all ensured that we are satisfied," he told Nana Yaw Kesseh.
