Akosombo Dam Spillage: Despite Media, TMW Foundation Donate Relief Items To Affected People

Staff of Despite Media, together with TMW Foundation, kind courtesy of some corporate institutions, listeners and viewers have put smiles on the faces of thousands of residents from communities engulfed by water pumped from the Akosombo dam by presenting them with relief items worth over Ghc 200,000.

The gesture included the donation of assorted relief items such as mattresses, bags of sachet water, mattresses, sugar, rice, oil, mosquito nets, water purifiers, gallons of liquid soap, first aid boxes, cartons of mackerel, bags of clothes, sanitary pads, toilet tissues, amongst others.

Commending the Despite Media and TMW foundation, the Member of Parliament for the South Tongu Constituency, Hon Wisdom Kobena Woyome who spoke on behalf of the Members of Parliament in the Volta region affected by the spillage said the items presented is very unique, especially the first aid boxes that will be placed at the various CHPS compounds to help make first aid easily accessible to victims who might be in need of it.

He mentioned that the relief items are going to be distributed to displaced people who can immediately go back to their homes even after the water has receded.

He called for more relief items from corporate bodies and individuals to support the affected people, as about 11 constituencies in the Volta Region have been affected by the flood. He also assured of being accountable for the distribution of the relief items.

The donation exercise was heavily supported by SIC Insurance Company Limited, Ondo Health and Safety, JA Biney, Special Ice, X Mineral Water, Quash Ice, Old Students of Aburi Girls 1971 teaser group, Siaka Phones and many individuals.

The Chief and Head of the Agorvi Clan, Torgui Agorvi Gli II in Sogakope who spoke on behalf of the leaders of the affected communities also in expressing gratitude to Despite media and the TMW Foundation for the gesture called on leaders of the country to use the aftermath of the huge spillage as a cue to prevent future occurrences.

Kwaku Ampong who also spoke on behalf TMW Foundation and the Staff of Despite Media commiserated with the residents on their plight and assured them that Ghanaians are behind them and were poised to overcome their challenges with them. He assured them of coming back to present more relief items.
