Nov. 4 Flagbearer Race: Elect A 'Unifier' . . . A Person with Humility and Respect - NPP Delegates Told

Professor Joseph Osafo, Director of the Centre for Aeging Studies at the University of Ghana, has offered advice to the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the kind of presidential aspirant they should elect, come Saturday, November 4.

The New Patriotic Party will be going to the polls to elect their flagbearer in the contest that has been nicknamed the 'showdown'.

Four candidates in the persons of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, former Agriculture Minister and a leading member of the party, Francis Addai-Nimoh are gunning for the flagbearership.

Over 200,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party are expected to exercise their voting right on November 4.

Making his submissions on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show Monday morning, Prof. Joseph Osafo implored the party to ensure the candidate they elect bears some unique features.

The NPP, he stated, needs "a certain posturing which shows unity and togetherness. They need someone who is a unifier; someone who speaks in humility and with respect. They need a person who, when he speaks, does not scatter but rather pulls people into the party. They need someone who, when he wins, can bring those who lose to join" him.

The Senior Psychologist also admonished the NPP to avoid adventurism, stressing "anytime you set a challenging target, then you must be ready to embrace extraordinary step. You don't achieve great feat on the altar of mediocrity".
