Expand Centres Or Zone Areas To Make Voter Registration Accessible - Kofi Tonto To EC

Government Spokesperson, Kofi Tonto, has advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to expand the district centers so as to encourage people to participate in the process.

He noted it is very discouraging when the district offices of the Commission are too far from the people and they have to either spend huge money or travel long distances to go and register their names.

"In some places, one will have to spend like close to 400 cedis just for transport fare if he or she wants to go and register. This is not encouraging. Expand the centers. Why don't you zone the areas to make it easily accessible to the people?", he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show.

Mr Tonto further appealed to his own political party, the New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress to quit playing politics with the ongoing limited registration by the EC but join forces to encourage every eligible Ghanaian to acquire his or her Ghana Card.

According to him, the parties should focus their energies on educating and supporting Ghanaians who don't have Ghana Card.

He supported the idea that Ghana Card should be the mode of identification for voting, so appealed to all political parties to ensure "every Ghanaian who has attained the age of 18 gets the Ghana Card".

"I'm a staunch member of the NPP but for Ghana to collapse, I will choose Ghana over NPP", he charged his colleague politicians, stressing the Ghana Card is the turning point for the nation.
