'This Is Childish' - Nana Akomea Wades Into Bugri Naabu Leaked Tape

The Chief Executive Officer of the InterCity State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea has described as "childish" the allegations leveled against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare in connection with a plot by some of his senior officers to remove him.

Broaching the purported scheme by COP Alex Mensah and a colleague officer, Superintendent George Asare, to remove the IGP who they accuse of having political affiliation with the opposition National Democratic Congress.

The allegations were captured on a leaked tape that is currently before a Parliamentary Committee probing the matter.

COP Alex Mensah and his colleague are before the Parliamentary Committee charged with the responsibility to investigate the leaked tape and during interrogations, the former maintained that the IGP is "not correct" and mistreating junior Police officers, hence feared the officers may exhibit apathy during the 2024 elections.

COP Mensah, who on the tape was discussing the removal of the IGP with the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, alleged that the IGP is in bed with the NDC to spoil the chances of the ruling party in winning next year's elections.

When he appeared before the Committee, he stood by some of his accusations and alluded to the pockets of chaos that characterized the Assin North by-election that saw an NDC candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, re-elected into Parliament to represent the Assin North constituency.

During the turn of the Supt. George Asare before the Committee, he disclosed Bugri Naabu had recommended the use of Mallams (spiritualists) to aid their efforts in removing the IGP both physically and spiritually.

But to Nana Akomea, these allegations have no logical basis.

He wondered how the IGP could influence the outcome of elections in the country.

"We all know that there is no logical basis for such allegation. Infact, it is childish. How can the IGP determine the outcome of an election?...If the IGP [Inspector General of Police] can determine the outcome of an election, no ruling party would lose elections in this country because every IGP is appointed by the ruling party," he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show.

Nana Akomea was utterly alarmed that these senior officers would conspire against the IGP.

"As COPs, you should have access to the Police Council or the Ministry of Interior if you have a genuine case" against the IGP "if indeed the IGP is doing something that brings the Police administration into disrepute," he blasted the accusers.
