Kids/Beggars On The Streets: 'The Law Must Bite' - Gender Minister

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu has assured the public that her Ministry will soon remove all beggars and children from the streets.

The Minister, speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show Monday morning, expressed worry over the rate at which children and beggars are pouring out in numbers to the streets.

She was worried about the dangers involved with them being on the streets and promised her outfit is doing all it can to send these people, most of which are foreigners, back to their various abodes or places of origin.

"It's not good," she commented on the influx of these people who accost drivers and pedestrains begging for food and money.

She, however, acknowledged the difficulties involved ridding the streets of these people but hinted an inter-ministerial Committee meeting comprising her Ministry, Foreign Affairs and Interior Ministries together with other relevant stakeholders will be held to find a lasting solution to this matter.

Nonetheless, she called on the law enforcers to do their job stressing "the law must bite".
