'Africa Must Be Assertive' - Prof. Joseph Osafo Supports Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

Senior Psychologist, Professor Joseph Osafo has thrown his support for the anti-LGBTQ+ bill before Parliament to be passed into law.

The anti-LGBTQ+ bill, when passed, will ensure any person caught in the act of homosexuality or advocating for the practices of homosexuals is held culpable for contravening the law and be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions in the anti-gay bill.

The offenders risk going to jail or being fined or both.

Contributing to Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Professor Joseph Osafo stated emphatically that he fully supports the bill, however, he appealed for a review of some portions of it.

"As a Pastor, I support the bill but as a clinician, let's reassess it and work on the parts that won't help us because if we are not careful and we pass the bill to a certain level, there may be some people who genuinely need help" but, due to the bill, may face prosecution, he stated.

Prof. Joseph Osafo also stressed it is time for Ghana and Africa at large to be assertive in what they want and believe will help their society.

"I have worked as a suicidologist within the Ghanaian context and the African context. Africa now is leading in suicidality. It is the youngest continent. Our infrastructure, health infrastructure is down; it is not the best . . . I think Africans ought to be assertive a little bit," he said.
