All 275 MPs Applauded For Adopting the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

A Policy Advisor, Atik Mohammed has applauded all the 275 Members of Parliament who have unanimously adopted the anti-gay bill.

The Members of Parliament accepted the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2022” which is to provide for proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values as well as proscribe lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) and related activities.

The Bill is yet to become law, however, there is a high probability that it will come into effect.

This therefore means implementation of this law will ensure any person caught in homosexual act will face a criminal charge and may end up in prison.

This bi-partisan Private Members Bill was introduced by eight Members of Parliament (MPs) led by Samuel Nartey George, National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Ningo-Prampram.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, Atik expressed his delight that the MPs have all come into consensus to pass the bill.

"We have to commend all the MPs, particularly the proponents of the bill. We have to applaud all of them and this was a bi-partisan proposition. For the first time, I have been impressed that this is the product of some corporations and consensus between and amongst MPs from different political parties. They deserve our praise and this opens the floodgate for more private members bills," he said.

He slammed those who argue it is of no concern to the nation should a man decide to have sex with a man or woman with a woman in their own room and not displaying it in the face of people.

But to Atik, there is no privacy to homosexuality.

He stated; "There is something called conspiracy to commit crime. It's an offence. If two people meet in a room and conspire to commit a crime, it's a crime according to the laws of this country."
