2023 Licensure Exams: Accept Training If You Intend To Train Others - Prof. Smart Sarpong To Teachers

Professor Smart Sarpong has advised the Ghanaian youth who desire to become teachers to avail themselves for training before they can train others.

The Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University bemoaned the outcome of the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination conducted in May 2023 where over 6,000 teachers failed the exams.

A total of 1,277 out of the 7,728 teachers passed the 2023 licensure exams.

The exams were on three basic areas; numeracy, literacy, and essential skills.

He wondered what was so difficult about the exams that people who want to teach would fail the exams.

To him, teachers cannot be exempt from licensure examination as it is a way to seive the good ones from the unqualified ones.

"I don't see what is difficult about this exam...They should try and justify their inclusion. Nurses do it; lawyers do it. Many of the professional institutions, they do it and we will not create any exception for teachers," he said.

Prof. Smart Sarpong admonished teachers to be serious with passing the licensure exams.

"Let's psyche our minds well if you want to enter the teaching profession. You are not coming in because of lack of jobs but rather to train and if you are going to train someone, then you must accept training. Accept training if you intend to train others; submit yourself to training," he stressed while speaking on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
