Galamsey Report: Let's Support The Police To Do Thorough Investigations - Nana Akomea

STC Chief Executive Officer, Nana Akomea has called on the nation to support the Police to investigate the allegations leveled against some government officials by Professor Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Professor Frimpong-Boateng has accused some officials in government and at the Jubilee House of involving themselves in galamsey activities.

His accusations have raised serious concerns with President Nana Addo tasking the Police to launch investigations into it.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service are in charge of the probe.

However, a statement from the Presidency has rubbished Professor Frimpong-Boateng's claims, describing it as hearsay.

The statement pointed out that "whilst Prof. Frimpong-Boateng makes serious allegations against some government appointees, as having been involved in, supporting or interfering with the fight against illegal mining, not a single piece of evidence was adduced or presented to enable the claims to be properly investigated. Indeed, the allegations contained in the document are at best hearsay".

Discussing the report during Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show, Nana Akomea called on the Police to do thorough investigations to ascertain the truth.

"It's essential to investigate this for the people involved themselves . . . it won't help the reputation of the people alleged to be involved if we don't find out the truth," he said.

He also charged all and sundry to provide the Police with every support in their investigations.

"We should all support the Police. Let's encourage and support the Police to do thorough investigations. Their thorough investigations will help all the accused persons in this matter for us to know who is innocent and who is not. It will also help to resolve this galamsey menace."
