Yaw Adomako Baafi Blasts Mahama Over 'INEC Is Better Than EC' Comment

NPP Communicator, Yaw Adomako Baafi has expressed disappointment in Ex-President John Dramani Mahama for denigrating Ghana's Electoral Commission during his visit to Nigeria to monitor their elections.

Mr Mahama was on a pre-election tour to Nigeria under the auspices of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) and observing the elections, he was impressed with the faith that all the candidates and parties have in the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria but lamented about Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC).

“Unfortunately, I can't say same for my Electoral Commission (EC), which was once among the best election management agencies in the world”, he said in a Facebook post.

He added that "regrettably, I am not hopeful this will happen when we have an EC that has blatantly spurned all efforts by the National Peace Council to host a meeting between the Commission and the two major political parties, the NDC and NPP".

Responding to Mr. Mahama's reservations over the administration of elections in Ghana compared to Nigeria's, Yaw Adomako Baafi slammed the former President saying he portraying the EC as an uncredible institution is uncalled-for.

He cast doubts over the former President's nationalism.

"I don't think it's the right thing because, in communication, as everyone knows him to be a communication person; we have ethics. So, if we have ethics, one of the principles is that you must be very patriotic no matter the situation," he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show.

He admonished the former President to stop besmirching the EC any time he comments on Ghana's electoral system.
