Head of Psychology at the University of Ghana, Professor Joseph Osafo has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their successful 10th National Delegates Congress over the weekend.

The delegates congress held at the Accra Sports Stadium saw the NDC ushering in fresh national executives to spearhead their efforts to becoming the next government in 2024.

At the end of grueling contest which saw over 9,000 delegates exercise their franchise to elect leaders to steer the affairs of the largest opposition party going into the 2024 general election, National Chairman aspirant Johnson Asiedu Nketiah polled 5,569 votes representing 65.17% of total votes cast to defeat his closest challenger, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who - went into the contest with the slogan C4C (Chairman 4 Chairman) - garnered 2,392 ballots representing 33.81%.

Fifi Kwetey, a former Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and one-time Propaganda Secretary of the NDC also polled 4,543 votes to become the party's General Secretary with Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, for­mer Minister of Youth and Sports, garnering 1,408 votes while Dr. Peter Boamah Otukonor, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, had 2,595 votes.

Joseph Yammin, a former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, was also elected the NDC National Organizer and the party's incumbent Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi went unopposed.

The delegates congress ended peacefully and the candidates, emphatically the losers, accepted their defeat.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, Prof. Joseph Osafo was enthused about the outcome of the NDC congress.

He noted that, due to the pockets of violence that characterized the party's regional elections, it was expected that the delegates congress would record similar incidents but the event "went well and for me, it means that some lessons have been learned that, going forward, we don't need violence".

"So, they have done well. I really, really feel they deserve to be congratulated," he emphasized.
