Majority Leader Cautions Mahama Ayariga

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader of parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has taken a swipe at the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.

According to the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga is not one of the lawyers with substance in parliament and thus should be mindful of his utterances when it comes to legal matters or issues involving legal discussions.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that "issues of parliament demands proper understanding and that you cannot cloud yourself in political judgement and make comments you barely understand."

The Suame MP who sounded furious during the interview cautioned the Bawku Central legislature to be mindful of his choice of words when he addresses him in parliament, adding that he can equally go dirty on him if he so wishes.

The minority in parliament has filed a motion of censure against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

The Banda MP, Ibrahim Ahmed at a press briefing in Parliament said both Majority and Minority leaders have already commenced discussion about the vote of censure against Mr. Ofori-Atta.

“The Honourable Haruna Iddrisu said it in a business committee yesterday. The motion is ready, he did not want to surprise the Majority Leader,” the Banda MP said.

Bagbin sets up committee to probe Minority’s allegations against Ofori-Atta

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has ruled that an ad-hoc committee will be set up to probe the allegations for the motion of censure raised by the Minority Caucus against the embattled Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the Speaker, setting up a committee will provide an opportunity for the Finance Minister to respond to issues of conflict of interest raised by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

“The evidence will be placed before the committee. The Minister will have the opportunity to defend himself. A report will be presented to the House, and we will debate that report,” the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin said.

NDC Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dominic Ayine and NPP MP for Adansi-Asokwa KT Hammond will co-chair the committee and will have to present their report to the House in Seven (7) days.
