Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah Asante, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to consider the demand of the Majority Caucus regarding the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.

Over 80 Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party have asked the President to dismiss the two Ministers.

According to Subin MP, Eugene Boakye Antwi, the Finance Minister is "experimenting with this country and we've had enough".

He fumed that if the President refuses to "let Ken Ofori-Atta go, we are going to boycott all government business in Parliament". 

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the MPs stressed "if our request is not responded to positively, we will not be present for the budget hearing, neither will we participate in the debate".

Giving his political insight on the matter during Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Dr. Asah Asante stated that the President not paying attention to the MPs will have serious consequences.

He noted that if the President fails to listen to the aggrieved MPs, he will jeopardize the fortunes of his party.

He elucidated it will create a situation where the constituents in NPP strongholds will vote "skirt and blouse" which will adversely affect the party's representation in Parliament and also a situation that will badly affect the NPP in the 2024 elections.

Furthermore, the party will lose its credibility and integrity.

"This is the time for the President to listen to what the party members are saying, those 80 people. It will help him," he said.

He added it may also lead to a situation where "they (NPP MPs) will demonstrate" against President Nana Akufo-Addo by "uniting with the Minority to pass a vote of censure to remove the Finance Minister. This will bring disgrace to the party and also weaken it".
