A Social Commentator and former Central Regional Minister, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has responded to a viral video showing some traders in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, hooting at the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during his visit to the Region to inspect some infrastructure projects.

The video showed the President's convoy passing through the market with the traders, who had paraded the sides of the road, shouting to drive him away and some threatening to vote against the ruling New Patroitic Party in 2024 elections.

This comes in the wake of GUTA members closing their shops in protest against the government for visiting economic challenges on them.

The traders complain bitterly about the cedi depreciation and an imposition of a tax on them and has warned the government to rectify the problem or they won't return to their shops.

But according to Allotey Jacobs, the protesters are not members of GUTA.

He seemingly accused the political detractors of the President to have mobilized the protesters, who he said formed just a small group, to make the President unpopular.

"If someone says it was GUTA members who were hooting at the President, I don't believe that that is true. It is never true because it was so selective . . . It has happened to every President and Presidential candidate. And that is part of our character that for Ghanaians, they don't like hardship," he said.

To him, the President is a competent leader doing great things for the nation and must be appreciated.

"Aren't we appreciating what the President and his Vice are doing?", he asked Ghanaians.

The former NDC Central Regional Chairman made these comments on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
