You Should Bow Your Heads In Shame - Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah Rebukes 'Arise Ghana' Protesters

Governance Lecturer at the Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, has slammed the Arise Ghana demonstration organizers and demonstrators over Tuesday's violent clash with the Police Service.

Tuesday's demonstration ended up with both the protesters and Police officers taking cover for their lives as the protesters threw stones and other objects at the Police and the Police also responded with firing tear gas and spraying them with water cannons.

Some of the officers and the protesters sustained injuries.

According to a Police statement following the incident, 29 demonstrators have been arrested "for their participation in violent attacks on the Police and some members of the public including school children during the Arise Ghana demonstration in Accra...Also, the organisers of the demonstration will be arrested and put before court for the attacks and damage to public property, in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Public Order Act, (Act 491)".

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah rebuked the demonstrators for hurling stones at the security personnel charged with responsibility to protect them.

He also slammed the youth who have been and were using foul language on the President of Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, asking if he was "your relative, would you not like it?"

To him, the organizers and demonstrators should be ashamed of their actions.

"Why would you throw stones? . . . They should bow their heads in shame," he stated.

He further advised the youth to be respectful towards the Police and cautioned them not to challenge a Police officer wielding gun as at the least provocation, the gun could be triggered.
